The Story

Flan in the house where I grew up was a dessert that was often made. It’s one of those things you don’t really notice you take it for granted because it has always been part of your family’s world.

It wasn’t until I left home and started living on my own, and then returned on weekends to my mother’s and grandmother’s house, that I realized how special it is the taste of home. Because in my homeland, flan is such a common recipe, everyone makes it, it’s sold on almost every corner, but none of them taste like the one my chichí (grandmother in Maya) makes!
